Dawna Hammers "Melody" CD is an amazing collection of inspiring pop songs. The opening two tracks, "Dance With You" and the title song "Melody" were skillfully produced by Latin bassist / producer Oscar Stagnaro from Braintree, MA (Stagnaro teaches at Berklee College of Music). These two songs were expertly arranged with tight, grooving Latin rhythm section set behind Dawna's rhythmic, melodic piano and earthy, ethereal vocals. Dawna's music is unfluenced by 70's songwriters such as Carole King, James Taylor, Laura Nyro and Joni Mitchell, as well as by contemporary songwriters such as Satah McLachlan and Sade.

The CD continues with one beautiful song after another. In "Medicine Woman", a fast, bluesy track, Dawna sings about the power of song and dance for personal and planetary healing. Two tracks also express the honest emotions felt by many since September 11th: "On the Earth" and "Dark Forces". "Dark Forces" beautifully releases the anger of the destructive forces around us, but encourages the power of prayer to balance them. It ends with an amazing and moving "sound collage" of Christian, Native American, Islamic, and Hebrew prayers and chants.

"One Spirit" is another very special, deeply felt song which was recorded on the eve of Spetember 11th. It features the vocals and drumming of world-famous Master Drummer Babatunde Olatunji. The CD ends with an uplifting, enlightening song entitled "Alive!" which celebrates life. When Dawna performs this song she gets the audience to sing and dance right along with her, filling everyone with energy, passion and joy.
